This is the clicker version of my best selling shield inspired septum ring. It is handcrafted in 14k yellow, rose, white, or palladium white gold, and available in 18 or 16 gauge.

In the U.S. 14k white gold contains nickel. If you are sensitive, I recommend choosing the 14k palladium white gold option, which is nickel free.
Please note this shield design is twice as thick as the non clicker version, in order to accommodate the hinge. The plate itself is 14 gauge, while the wire that goes through the nose can be either 16 or 18 gauge.

It's a common misconception that gold doesn't tarnish- pure gold doesn't, but its alloyed with other metals to make it suitable for use in jewelry- these metals tarnish. With pieces worn on the surface of the skin oxidation is minimal, but pieces worn through your skin (ear posts, nose rings) are constantly exposed to moisture through contact with our bodies' mucous membrane, which speeds up oxidation. The speed and severity of how this happens varies from person to person, based on how acidic our body composition is. Luckily, tarnish can easily be removed. I recommend buying some gold cleaner. Dip your piece for a few seconds or minutes and rinse with water when the tarnish is gone. Cleaning your piece regularly with a polishing cloth with help keep tarnish from forming in the first place.
